Carefully set in the middle of tropical vegetation, warmly and thoughtfully furnished, the Inkaterra Machu Picchu
(last called Machu Picchu Hotel) is a comfortable base of operations for your visit to the mystical and mysterious monument of Machu Picchu, a
pre-Columbian fortress of the Inca Empire, one of the greatest cultures the world has ever known. Andean culture and nature have inspired the design of the hotel which blends native indigenous architecture with the spectacular natural setting of the beautiful
Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu
These factors and the experience acquired during twenty two years of successful management of Eco-Tourism at the
Inkaterra Reserva
Amazónica - Tambopata, - the only Private Ecological Reserve of 10,000 has. located in the rain forest of Southern Peru, near Puerto Maldonado, have been wisely combined to create a warm and comfortable hotel. We arrive by train at the new train station of Machu Picchu
Village (Aguas Calientes) next to the hotel, it is a short walk amid flowers and luxurious tropical vegetation. The reception is located in the main house, which is adorned with wild strawberries, native palms, ferns, begonias, and endless orchids. Stone archways and
colorful red tiled roofs greet the visitor.
Since April 1991, the Inkaterra Machu Picchu, within the city limits of the small town of Machu Picchu
Village (Aguas Calientes), is located in an exuberant tropical forest at the foot of an imposing mountain which is covered with orchids, bromeliads, and other ecological wonders. It sits on the Right Bank of the Vilcanota River, between two creeks fed from pure mountain springs.
Only 86 rooms, each different from the other, form the Inkaterra Machu Picchu. Adobe (mud bricks), hand made bricks, eucalyptus wood and stones are part of the building materials which give the Andean retreat a feeling of warmth and security, amidst this mysterious place. Since it is located in a protected archeological zone, and so as not to disturb the ecological surroundings, the materials for construction were brought by train from the Urubamba
Sacred Valley and carried by hand to the hotel site. The hotel's spacious double rooms are easily the most comfortable and elegant of the area. Rooms have ample natural light, beautiful view over to the luxurious and flowery gardens and offers privacy. The decor combines the richness of the native materials and colorful handcrafted furnishings, with a charming Spanish colonial style setting.
Most of the objects are natural or hand made: clay lamp bases with parchment or woven shades, multicolored bedspreads, hand-woven and dyed in Cusco especially for the hotel, tile or stone floors, wooden beams, colonial cabinets, hand carved red cedar furniture with soft pillows; all of this contributes to the guest comfort away from home. The desire of the Inkaterra Machu Picchu is to satisfy the guest and make his visit to the historic sanctuary an unforgettable experience.
For this reason, each room has details such as pure alpaca blankets, extra long double beds, soft pillows, and other traditional elements, which make accommodation at our Hotel luxurious. The spacious well-lit modern bathrooms have built-in sinks, large mirrors, noiseless toilets and hot water. The main house, adorned with fresh flowers all year long, offers a spacious lounge area, attractive fireplace, comfortable sofas, as well as reading material on
Peru. The visitor can rest, take tea or have a drink from the well supplied bar in this area.
If the weather allows it, lunch can be taken in the outdoors restaurant with a spectacular view over the Andes Mountains and the Vilcanota River, or served in the panoramic main dining room decorated with
Pucar ceramics; dinner is usually served in the main dining area. The view of the illuminated gardens, with foliage covered rocks, and the warmth of the large Indian fireplace burning eucalyptus logs, give the area a cozy homelike atmosphere.
