This picturesque village is located 12 km from the city of Piura, its ancestors is the Pre-Hispanic culture of Tallan, famous for its artisans and gastronomy.
Etymologically speaking the word derives from the Moche voices "catac" (grain) and "caos" (lush). This area was populated by Tallan culture, who will then be installed and run by Nariwalac Mecnau and then organized themselves and formed the Tallan nation.
It has a population of 65000 inhabitants mostly engaged in agriculture and is characterized by the production of cotton, high quality texture and long fibers, is extremely quoted both at home and abroad.
Catacaos something is very characteristic of the innate ability to do wonderful artisans of gold and silver, as well as straw, wood, leather, clay. The quality of many of its products and art works have managed to cross borders and are exported to various countries.

Crafts of this town is recognized nationally and internationally, to the extent that the State has awarded the title of "Artisan Capital" with a law 25132 in 1989. The ceviche, raw fish marinated in sour lemon, onion, salt and hot pepper, and can be grouper, grouper or cashmere, accompanied by a good 'trama' (sweet potato, cassava or trifles).

Narihualá Archaeological Complex
From the town of Catacaos are traversed 3 km to the archaeological site (5 minutes by car). Visiting hours: Mon 8:00 to 18:00. Considered the capital of a local pre-Inca culture called Tallan.
