National Anthropological Archeological and Historic Museum
Founded by Julio C. Tello in 1938; exhibition of the biggest historical collection in Peru, more than 100 thousand pieces, from all the Peruvian cultures, ordered in didactic and chronological way. Ceramic pieces, metallic pieces, fabrics, funeral bales, sculptures carved in stone, etc.
It integrates the entire Peruvian archeological and historical process and houses one of the most complete pre-Colombian collections of ceramics, textiles, and fine metal works with pieces from the Chavín, Paracas, Nazca, Mochica, Tiahuanaco, Pucará, Chimú, Chachapoyas, and Inca cultures.
There are also rooms and galleries that exhibit Colonial and Republican pieces: an art gallery with canvasses from the Cuzco School, a complete collection of portraits of the Viceroys, iconography of the liberators and other illustrious people, and portraits of presidents and figures of Peruvian history.
Located in the same plaza is the house that was residence of the Viceroys Pezuela and La Serna and the Liberators José de San Martín and Simón Bolívar. Are exhibited collection of paintings, objects, documents and relics corresponding to the Viceroyalty, Emancipation, Independence and Republican Eras.
In archaeology, the following journey is recommended,
- "Galería de los Orígenes" (Gallery of the Origins), pieces and remains of old Peruvian hunters.
- "Galería Formativa" and "Sala Chavín" (Formative gallery and Chavín Room), show of the first pre-Inca cultures.
- "Sala Lima" (Lima room), samples of pre-Inca cultures of the central coast of Peru, highlight the collections of Nazca and Paracas.
- Sector of the cultures Recuay, Pashash and Caxamarca.
- "Sala Moche" (Moche Room). Rich collection of Culture Mochica.
- Sector of the Tiahuanaco, Lima and Wari cultures.
- "Sala Metalurgia y Maestros Orfebres" (Metal and Jewelry rooms). Gold, silver and other metal pieces of diverse pre-Hispanic cultures collection.
- "Sala de Textiles Precolombinos" (Pre-columbine textiles room). Show of beautiful fabrics of pre-Hispanic cultures.
- "Sala Chimú, Sicán y Chancay" (Chimú, Sicán, and Chancay room) exhibition of excellent pieces belonging to these cultures.
- "Sala Arquitectura y Urbanismo" (Architecture and urban style room). Exhibition of big constructions in scale of models of pre-columbine cultures, such as Machu Picchu, Wiñay Wayna, Tambo Colorado, etc., works in scale of the famous Ccosi Salas.
