Create an ASCII Delimited Import File

The Mass Import utility requires a file in ASCII delimited format. Some spreadsheet programs support this format; however, Lotus 1-2-3 does not. If you save a file as text in Lotus 1-2-3, it appears to be in tabular delimited format, but it is not. The characters separating columns are a series of spaces.

Note: Before creating the import file determine whether the data contains the following characters: @,;#
These characters are the default delimiters in the Mass Import file. If the data contains these characters, you will need to specify other delimiters. For more information, refer to the following topics:

Using a spreadsheet that supports a delimited file format, do the following:

  1. Define #STORE, for example:
    #STORE 6ixth Avenue

The store that you define must already exist in the database.

  2. Import data to one or more of the following tables, in the order specified. For example, to update product prices, import data to the PRODPRCS table.
    1. CATEGORY - Category Table
Ensure that you have entered data for the following required fields: CGNAME, CGNBR
    2. CGRYREL - Category Relationship Table
Ensure that you have entered data for the following required fields: CGNBR
    3. CATESGP - Shopper Group Category Template Table
Ensure that you have entered data for the following required fields: CGNBR, CSDISPLAY
    4. PRODUCT - Product Table
Ensure that you have entered data for the following required field: PRNBR
    5. PRODSGP - Shopper Group Product Template Table
Ensure that you have entered data for the following required fields: PRNBR, PSDISPLAY
    6. PRODPRCS - Product Price Table
Ensure that you have entered data for the following required fields: PRNBR, PPPRC, PPCUR
    7. PRODATR - Product Attribute Table
Ensure that you have entered data for the following required fields: PRNBR, PANAME
    8. PRODDSTATR - Product Distinct Attribute Table
Ensure that you have entered data for the following required fields: PRNBR, PDNAME
    9. CGRYREL - Category Relationship Table
Ensure that you have entered data for the following required field: CGNBR
  3. Save the file as a comma-separated value file using the file extension .csv.
  4. Open your .csv import file in a text editor and redefine the column delimiter as a comma, as described in #COLUMNDELIMITER. The Mass Import utility will not interpret commas in your product descriptions to be column delimiters.
  5. To import data follow the directions in Import data with the Mass Import utility.
