Santa Catalina de Siena Monastery

Religious historic monument, convent founded in 1579 in Arequipa. It was opened to the people partially in 1970. 

Small citadel of 20000 sq./m., Spaniard Sevillian style construction, which was built in ashlar.

In the narrow streets you can find churches, chapels, plazas, etc. All these places still have there original lines and colors. Besides all of this it has its own museum with beautiful Colonial pieces, painters and religious objects.

At present time some nons are still living in the convent in the sector that is closed for the public. Pope Juan Pablo II visited this monastery in 1985 due to the beatification of Sor Ana de Los Angeles Monteagudo (1595 - 1668).

When crossing the main door you will have the opportunity to go back in time for almost 400 years, in an atmosphere of eternal peace and tranquility.
