Pimentel

Weather


Resort and fishermen's creek located at 13 km. (8 miles) west of  Chiclayo, it has great activity in summer (December - April), practice of  surfing.

Here you will be able to find and know the famous "caballito de totora" (little boats made out of straw), ancestral crafts, the same as they were made by the Mochicans the third century, where every morning they used to go out fishing, using a piece of cane as a roar.

Santa Rosa
Picturesque fishermen creek, located at 5 km. (3.1 miles) south of Pimentel town. Popular seafood restaurants.

Monsefu
Artisans' town, located 20 km. (12.4 miles) southwest of Chiclayo. You can arrive from Santa Rosa or from Chiclayo directly by the Pan-American Highway. Among their people there are many artisans dedicated to the making of articles of thread and straw, and ceramic objects. The architecture of their constructions and their residents will transport you to the past.

Zaña
City founded by the Spaniards in 1536 with the name "Santiago Miraflores de Zaña", had its best time during the colony reaching great development, called the "Peruvian Seville", and for that reason was considered as the possible capital of the Viceroyalty of Peru. Pirates plundered it in 1686 and it was completely devastated by the overflows of the Zaña River in 1726.

It is located to the southeast of Chiclayo, and you can visit the ruins of the formerly opulent city. Descendants of black slaves form great part of its population.


Following the Pan-American Highway north, from Chiclayo, you will find the towns of Lambayeque, Mochumi, Túcume, Illimo, Pacora, Jayanca, Motupe and Olmos.

Lambayeque
Small city located at 12 km. (7.45 miles) north of Chiclayo, colonial constructions, old capital of the department of Lambayeque. Bruning Museum.

Salas
"Capital of the Folkloric Medicine", old occult town of sorcerers, witch doctors and "chamanes" that are part of the spirit of the north coast of Peru. Located at 49 km. (30.4 miles) north of Chiclayo, between Jayanca and Motupe.

In many of their houses are organized at nights cure sessions where the sorcerer use diverse objects (huacos, stone idols, bones, plants, etc.) and a hallucinogenic beverage of the cactus San Pedro. There also exist people dedicated to prediction and to the destructive enchantments.

Motupe
Town located at 79 km. (49 miles) north of Chiclayo, famed by the celebration of the festivities of the "Cruz de Chalpon".
