This Amazon lodge is a destination in its own right, located 3.5 hours by
outboard boat from Puerto Maldonado, very close to the most important attraction
of the upper Tambopata River, the big macaw clay lick, where hundreds of macaws
and parrots gather every day to eat clay.
Thanks to its privileged location, Wasai Tambopata Lodge offers the tourist
more chances to see wild animals in its tours than in any other area. Wasai also
offers fishermen the best place to fish Payara (“Hydroclycus scomberoides”
) and other species. Fishes in the Natural Reserve are wild and ferocious, big
and strong. Payara is one of them.
Bungalows are constructed in the typical style of the region (wood and palm)
and offer accommodation for up to 40 people.
The dining room has a spectacular view of the Tambopata River. Meals are very
good, with options for vegetarians.

than 400 species registered in the area. It is possible to see more than 300 in
a standard 4 days tour.
A small lagoon with different species of fish and frogs is ideal for sport
fishing (catch and release) with small nets or fishing canes.
The Gato River and its cascades, right in front of the Lodge, is a beautiful
place to enjoy a refreshing bath.
Wasai Tambopata Lodge is developing different eco projects with six (6) lines

Wasai Tambopata Lodge combines most of its tours with the Tambopata Wildlife
Center, a luxury camp site in the upper Tambopata River, near the two biggest
macaw clay licks of Tambopata River. Trips to the upper Tambopata River give
visitors more chances to see wildlife than any other tour offered for the same
length of time; this is the greatest wilderness experience you will have.
The combination of Wasai Tambopata Lodge with
Wasai Maldonado Eco Lodge allows travelers to visit the paradisiacal
Sandoval Lake, famous for its beauty and richness in wildlife; visitors can also
do the Canopy trip or visit an Ese Eja family to know about their customs and
life style, all of it close to Puerto Maldonado.
