The Santiago de La Nazca Villa was founded by the Head Chief of the valley, Don
Garcia de Lanasca, in times of Viceroy Don Luis Velasco (1596-1606), dividing
the land between the Spaniards that lived in the region.
The word “ Majoro” derives from the quechua words ma= place, and qoro =
thickets, adding them up, it means place of thickets.
In 1698 the premises were given to the Saint Agustin Convent until 1910 when it
became a private property. The 100 hectares of the Hacienda Majoro were run by
the aristocratic De La Borda family, until the Agrarian Reform in 1968. The owners remodeled the old convent into their casa hacienda and in 1980 into a
hotel.
The current administration bought the Hotel in January 2005, and since, the
grounds are being totally remodeled and redecorated.
For art lovers, The Hotel Majoro is an ideal place. We have a large art
collection, including Pre-Columbian original textiles, as well as pottery,
portraits, paintings from the Cusco school, colonial and republican furniture,
displayed in the sitting rooms and dinning room, verandas and halls of the
Hotel.
There is also a Planetarium in the Hotel which you can visit before overflying
the Nazca Lines, where you will learn about the theory of Maria Reiche, relating
the Nazca Lines with the constellations of the Southern Hemisphere.
Today, Majoro has 84 rooms, divided in standard, vip, junior suites and suites.
Over half of them have bathtubs. Each one has its special charm. They are all
different keeping the concept of a Casa –Hacienda.
The decor varies in each room. You may find the original paintings of renown
Peruvian painters, multicolor tapestries, Pre-Columbian textiles, photos of
famous photographers, furniture of colonial and republican times.
Our recreational and green areas are vast, over 10,000 sq meters of gardens,
including a modern swimming pool close to the bar, attended until late at night.
Our Convention Center holds between 80-150 people. We count with Wi-Fi and
internet facilities. The dinning room has a capacity for 120 guest and it is
decorated with textiles.
The Hotel has kept the essence and style of the original Hacienda. Wondering
through the fields, gardens or plaza watching the stars, its real pleasure.
We also provide assistance with excursions and over flights though our sister
companies Majoro Tours and Air Majoro.
