The Hotel
Built as a Monastery in 1592, the Hotel is an oasis of elegance, grace and
service, yet still retains the original character and style of the Monastery.
Here you can feel the presence of the past even as you are pampered with every
luxury and modern comfort that is associated with an Orient-Express Hotel.
Basic facts about the Hotel
Located in the very heart of Cusco, just one block from the Plaza de Armas, and
only a 10 minutes drive from the airport. The public areas boast 2 restaurants,
bar, lobby and exquisite Chapel of San Antonio Abad, as well as conference
facilities for up to 200 people, meeting rooms and fully equipped business
center. The restaurants feature local entertainment almost nightly.
Oxygen Enrichment
Perhaps the most exciting aspect of the renovation of the Hotel Monasterio was the oxygen-enrichment of a number of our rooms.
(US $ 40 Service Oxygen Supplement).
As you know, Cusco is situated at a height of 3,400 meters (11 000 ft). The problem is that guests usually fly into Cusco from Lima (sea level). The rapid ascent from Lima to Cusco which only takes one hour by air means that there is no time for acclimatization and consequently the guests are at risk of altitude sickness.
Rooms & Suites
Hotel Monasterio has 126 rooms including sixteen Superior Rooms, ninety Deluxe
Rooms, fourteen Junior Suites, one Deluxe Suite, three Presidential Suites and
two Royal Suites.
The decoration and furnishings combine the best of modern and traditional
Spanish colonial style, many of them with charming views of the city or the
colourful rooftops of Cuzco. You can feel the presence of the past even if you
are pampered with every luxury and modern comfort. The original architecture and
design of the Monasterio has not been significantly altered, and thus the rooms
do reflect their origins as a home for Jesuit seminarians. There are no two
rooms alike and they all vary in size and format.
All rooms are equipped with:
- Telephone (with an extension in the bathroom)
