KONCHUKOS TAMBO – WHO IS IT FOR?
Konchukos Tambo is ideal for visitors that seek:
- One night stays to leisurely visit the
Chavin de Huantar
with enough time to absorb its present day cultural heritage manifest in the
villages’ handicrafts.
- Two or three days of acclimatization before beginning on treks or climbs in
the Cordillera Blanca
or Huayhuash.
- Pioneering spectacular trails along the eastern slope of the Cordillera Blanca
or on some of the better preserved portions of the Inka Road.
- An experience of Andean culture and nature away from the tourist crowds.
- A stop on the archaeologically wealthy northern “circuit” of pre-Inca
monuments: Caral, Chavin, Sechin, Chan Chan and Sipan.
- Plain, old, down-to-earth, mountain biking on goat trails!
KONCHUKOS TAMBO ACCOMMODATIONS AND SERVICES
Konchukos Tambo is built out of adobe bricks coated in cement and roofed with
tiles. The floors, doors and windows follow the valley’s typical woodworking
styles: nooks, crannies and irregularities included. The lodges 18 rooms are
located in bungalow style complexes of one, two and three rooms.
Room sizes vary widely, and include models ranging from interconnected family
complexes of more than 40 sq meters, to standard hotel double rooms of 10 sq
meters. Most have views of the valley below. All have wood stoves. All have
private bathrooms with hot water throughout the day. Room decorations include
curtains and blankets woven locally and stone lamps sculpted locally with Chavin
motifs
The dining room fits over forty people, but weather permitting, tables are
placed on the stone terraces overlooking the magnificent view of the Mosna river
and the town of San Marcos. The dining room is also equipped with chimney, bar
and library.
There is also a reception and lobby with luggage storage and a gravel parkway.
The bungalows, dining room and terraces are all connected by stone passageways
that navigate through dense flower gardens.
