Fixed departures 2010 – 2011 Each Friday
Day 1: Cuzco / Chillca
- We will depart from Cuzco and travel to Checacupe town, where we will
visit the colonial temple of the Immaculate and have a snack.
- Then we start ascending to the Pitumarca Valley.
- Around noon we will have a picnic lunch in a beautiful spot.
- We will arrive to Chillca where we will be greeting by the community.
- At the first lodge we will have time to relax and enjoy the music
provided by the locals.
- We will have dinner at the lodge.
Day 2: Chillca / Machuracay
- We will start the day with a hearty breakfast at the lodge.
- Then our hike begins around 08:30 in the wide valley of Upis where
impressive glaciated mountains loom above the valley offering majestic
views.
- After we will have a snack enjoying the view we will make our way
towards the waterfalls descending from the Santa Catalina Mountain.
- The picnic lunch will be waiting for us next to the Cochajaja lagoon.
- Then we will hike along a second lagoon and crossing a long series of
moraines in order to reach the Machuracay Tambo.
- We will have dinner at the lodge.
Day 3: Machurcay / Anantapata
- We will start the day with a hearty breakfast at the lodge.
- The hike begins with a demanding ascent to the Palomani pass at an
elevation of 5200 m./17 000ft.
- A fantastic view of the glaciated south face of the “apu” will give us a
wonderful place to enjoy the snack.
- This day we will have the picnic lunch in wonderful spot.
- Then we will hike in direction of Anantapata Tambo.
- We will have dinner at the lodge.
Day 04: Anantapata / Cuzco
- We will start the day with a hearty breakfast at the lodge.
- The hike will take us to a spectacular part of the trail in the middle
of mountains with red, ochre, and blue strata.
- As we enjoy the snack we will be on the lookout for groups of gracious
vicuñas, as they are frequently spotted in this isolated area.
- By the time we finish the picnic our bus will be waiting for the return
trip to Cuzco.
Note:
- Group size: 2 – 14 people.
- The highest spot is at Palomani pass at an elevation of 5,200 m.a.s.l /17,000 ft.
- The longest distance is 15 km /9.3 miles approximate.
