ITINERARY

Day 1: Arrive Lima

We’ll welcome you off your flight into Lima and help you check-in and depart for your onward flight to Cuzco. Airport greeting in Cuzco with transport to your hotel. Enjoy the afternoon to rest, recover and acclimate.

Day 2: Sacred Valley Tour

Embark on a tailored cultural, archeological and physical exploration of the Sacred Valley — visiting and hiking through the major ruins and agrarian villages of the valley. You’ll be traveling between sites during the day with a guide/driver via private vehicle, so the “tour” is really quite flexible and will give you a good feel for the geography and the environment of the Sacred Valley.

Day 3: Paragliding, Mountain Biking, Whitewater Rafting Adventure (your choice)

Enjoy a day paddling the waters of the Urumbamba river, pedaling down the mountains surrounding Cuzco or paragliding above the peaks of the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Late afternoon transport to the Andean village of Ollantaytambo.

Day 4: Hiking and Exploring the Andes

Nestled between mountains at the end of the road towards Machupicchu, Ollantaytambo is a great place to stretch your legs and enjoy some day hiking in the Sacred Valley. That afternoon, you’ll board the historic train to the village of Machu Picchu Town (former Aguas Calientes), which is the staging area for your next morning’s journey up to the Machu Picchu citadel.

Day 5: Machupicchu

From Machu Picchu Town, you’ll be able to be among the first to arrive at the beginning of the day to the Machu Picchu site, enjoying the full day at the citadel before catching the evening train back to Cuzco for transport to your hotel.

Day 6: From the Andes to the Amazon

Hotel Pickup in Cuzco and transport to the airport for your flight back to Lima. We will ensure that you catch your connecting flight to the jungle without spend too much time in the airport between flights, putting you into the jungle metropolis of Iquitos that evening. Receive a greeting at the airport and transport to your hotel in Iquitos for rest. The rest of the day on your own to explore the world’s largest city that is inaccessible via roadway.

Day 7: Begin Amazon Adventure

Orient to the Amazon with a speed boat trip to the secluded Sinchicuy Jungle Lodge. Built on high ground, this native-style lodge is surrounded by trees, plants and exotic birds. Savor a refreshing welcome drink at the lodge before embarking on a cultural and environmental orientation of the local area. First we’ll take a short hike or canoe trip to an indigenous Yagua Community where we’ll learn about the native culture, then visit the area Shaman who will demonstrate the healing properties of the local flora. Turing our attention to the fauna of this ecologically rich region, we’ll visit a nearby animal rescue center.

Returning to the Sinchicuy Jungle Lodge for lunch, we’ll enjoy a chef-prepared meal rich in local plants, roots and produce supplied by area farmers. Fortified for the afternoon’s journey to the Tambo Yanayacu Lodge, we’ll board a boat and traverse to the opposite bank of the Amazon where we’ll make a short portage to the Yanayacu River, known as the “Kingdom of the Giant Trees.” From this incredibly ecologically rich location, we’ll be able to enjoy the calls of jungle birds, search for monkeys and three-toed sloths in the forest canopy and learn about the precious medicinal plants unique to these tropical surroundings.

Take time during the afternoon to make a short trek to secluded Oxbow Lake where you can spy exotic bird species such as the Horned Screamer. Wind down before dinner with a lazy canoe ride before sitting down to the evening’s jungle feast.

Day 8: Continue Amazon Adventure

Sight and photograph the myriad of bird species as they catch breakfast on the river. After the birds have had their fill, you can retire back to the lodge for your waiting breakfast before embarking on an invigorating hike to Yagua Cocha, one of the largest and most beautiful lakes in the region. On this secluded jungle lake, you can take the opportunity to spot wildlife or try your hand at traditional native fishing aboard a dugout canoe.

Replenish with a boxed lunch by the lakeside, or our cook will help you prepare your catch. After lunch, we’ll make the return trek to the Yanayacu Jungle Lodge where we’ll take part in a reforestation project by planting a few native trees. As the sun dips towards dinner, you can visit and explore a local agrarian village, or canoe and swim in one of the gentle creeks that flow near the lodge.

Day 9: Conclude Amazon Adventure

After breakfast, we’ll board a boat for the start of our return journey towards civilization and Lima, stopping off to visit a typical Amazon River village on the way back to the Sinchicuy Lodge. After our last meal in the Jungle, we’ll continue the Amazon boat trip to Iquitos where we’ll bring you to the airport for your departure from Iquitos, putting you into Lima late afternoon. Airport greeting with transport to your hotel in the trendy and pedestrian-friendly Miraflores district for the opportunity to enjoy the restaurants, the waterfront and your last evening in Peru.
