The excursions of this program are "A la carte" but we recommend the following itinerary:

Day 1: ... (Lima or Cuzco) / Puerto Maldonado / Lodge (L-D)
 

  • Welcome and transfer from the Puerto Maldonado airport to the city pier. Preparation for the trip on the Madre de Dios river.
  • Visit to the Puerto Maldonado city market, where you can buy Brazil nuts, aguajes, pacays, coconas, cashew nuts, and star apples, as well as other typical tropical forest fruits and nuts and local handicrafts made with seeds from the Amazon region. This activity can be carried out on arrival or departure from Puerto Maldonado, depending on flight schedules.
  • Embark on 45-minute trip downriver in outboard motor boat. Along the river one can appreciate caimans (alligators), birds and flowers, etc., native to the region.
  • Arrival at the lodge, situated on the left bank of the Madre de Dios river.
  • Welcome, explanation of the architecture and orientation of the lodge, built entirely by local indigenous people using axes and machetes and according to Iñapari, Mashco, Amaracair, Dipo and Ese-Eja customs.
  • Lunch at the Lodge.
  • Enjoy the Trail System adventure and the Twilight River excursion or the nature presentation at the Eco Center with available cocktails
  • Dinner at the main dinning room and overnight


Day 2: Lodge Area (B-L-D)
 

  • Buffet-style tropical breakfast in the dining room. Starting at 5 a.m. until 10 a.m.
  • Enjoy the excursion to Lake Sandoval: A 30-minute boat ride takes you to the Tambopata National Reserve, where wildlife surrounds you as you enjoy the one and a half hour walk along three kilometers of trails to reach Lake Sandoval. Glide in a wooden canoe, across a beautiful, mirror-like oxbow lake that is home to the endangered giant river otter, as well as red howler monkeys, macaws, prehistoric hoatzins, also called “shanshos”, anacondas, point-tailed palm creepers and side-neck turtles. You will spend two hours on the lake, looking at all is has to offer.
  • Lunch at the Lodge
  • In the afternoon, Inkaterra Canopy Walkway & Anaconda Walk: Take a 15-minute walk along the trail towards the Inkaterra Canopy Interpretation Center. A short briefing will be given about the project history, structure and the highlights in this unforgettable adventure at the Canopy Walkway. You will ascend the first tower and walk through the treetops of the giant Amazon Basin, across hanging bridges. Views unimaginable from below and possible only from the air, are revealed on this network of towers, bridges and platforms. Be on the lookout for different birds of the jungle, such as toucans, woodpeckers, trogons, among many others, or try to identify them through their songs, from the observation decks. Learn about the interrelationship of the flora and fauna at the various levels of the forest and its integration into the jungle ecosystem.
  • Dinner and overnight at the Lodge

 

Day 3: Lodge Area (B-L-D)
 

  • Buffet-style tropical breakfast in the dining room. starting at 5 a.m. until 10 a.m
  • Gamitana Creek excursion: Enjoy a long walk following to the magic world of Gamitana creek. The sights, scents and sounds of the jungle will surround you as you walk for two and a half hours, rambling through the rain forest along the banks of this winding, dark-water creek that is home to piranha, caimans, turtles and an abundance of brightly colored birds. When you reach the embarkation point, board a canoe and navigate 2-hour ride dawn stream to the Gamitana Model Farm, appreciating the rich plant and animal life along the way. Enjoy a short guided tour to learn about an Amazon farm.

Day 4: Lodge Area (B-L-D)
 

  • Buffet-style tropical breakfast in the dining room. starting at 5 a.m. until 10 a.m
  • Visit the Hacienda Concepcion: A 35-minute ride upriver takes you to Hacienda Concepcion, home to a remarkable Botanical Garden with over 200 different species of rainforest plants. An in-depth explanation familiarizes you with the processing, uses and benefits of these traditional indigenous plants, including fascinating native medicinal uses. Next, take a 30-minute canoe trip on a small lake and watch for wildlife – turtles, giant river otters, sun grebes, nightjars and herons. The activity ends at Concepcion Educational Research Facility where exhibits, designed by the National Geographic Society, tell the story of the remarkable Madre de Dios region.
  • Native Experience excursion or the Rainforest Garden just around the cabanas. This interesting native garden was started by the locals more than ten years ago showcasing native plants, trees and orchids. Learn to identify orchids, its flower parts, pollinators and different habitats. Know the fascinating history and legends, the practical and beneficial use of indigenous plants, as well as other remarkable rainforest flora. An in-depth explanation familiarizes you with the process, traditional use and highly interesting benefits of the plants and trees used for construction including those that were used for building the lodge, some of its fixtures, as well as native clothing accessories.
  • Dinner and Overnight.
     

Day 5: Lodge / Puerto Maldonado / .... (Lima or Cuzco) (B)
 

  • Breakfast
  • Visit Inkaterra Butterfly House 9 A.M. Visit the city’s Butterfly Farm , unique in Peru , where you can experience several dozen of the more than 3,800 varieties of butterflies and moths found in Peru.
  • Return to the city of Puerto Maldonado.
  • Assistance with your luggage, prior to boarding your flight to Cuzco or Lima.
