The city of Huaraz was founded in the sixteenth century by Jeronimo de Aliaga. It is the capital of the department of Ancash and the province of the same name. The city lies on the Santa River, at 3.091 meters above sea level in the heart of the valley, great views of the snow covered Huascarán and the Cordillera Blanca.

Sanctuary of Señor de la Solicitud: Plazuela del Señor de la Soledad. Visists Mo-Su 8:00-13:00 and 15:00-18:00. Archaeological Remains Ichic Willcahuain and Willcahuain: Located 7 Km northeast of Huaraz (35 minutes by car or 3 hours walk). Chancos Thermal Baths: Located 27 Km north of Huaraz, hot springs medicinal properties, sodium bicarbonate, and calcium chloride, up to 85 ° C., pools, caves and hot springs pools.
